Cool Shell 100Ron V-Power

Ok I have an MY00 with a UK TEK2 ECU.

I used to use optimax then V-Power as they are supposed to be all singing all dancing.

Anyway last week I had to fill up with Normal SUL+ 98.????? from my local ARAL station and the car seems to like this alot better than the V-Power.

Is this

1) because the tek 2 is mapped for UK fuel ?
2) V-Power is not all it is cracked up to be ?

I thought these ECUs were supposed to learn about which fuel it is drinking and to me 100ron should be better than 98RON or am I missing the bigger picture here?

I get the feeling my car prefers Asti Spumante to Champagne.

And as long as my car prefers the sparkling water why should I continue to pay for champagne?

If your ECU has been re-mapped for UK 98RON (optimax) then maybe they have not allowed settings to take into account for incresead ron fuel.

I would ring up the guys that did the re-map to confirm one way or another.

I know the ECU is capable of retarding the timing for IE lower grade petrol like from 100 to 98 ron as per my prova ECU but as what TEK2 have done i cant say.

Wishfull thinking!

V-Power in Ireland AFAIK replaces Shell Pura, which wasn't even super unleaded from what I'm told.

Its not 100ron either, there was a thread on here not that long ago.

Not that it would benefit me in the slightest anyway, I'm 100 miles away from Dublin

What you want is some 76 cool blue racing fuel (106 octane street racing fuel)

http://www.76andr.co.uk/

Wonder how much difference it would make ?

An MY00 won't advance over its original 98RON map, only retard, so is unlikely to be able to take advantage of anything over the 98RON it was set up to use.
V-Power might have some crud in it that disagrees with something? Or maybe the ARAL is just good stuff? Lower RON but higher MON? I remember the ARAL being good the one time I used it too, but that wasn't on my car so hard to tell... Just go with what the car seems to like & don't try to understand it - probably easiest!
