Steering problem with MY02
guys
there seems to be somthing seriously wrong with my steering
this is on a my02 wrx
it all seems to go solid ( not what I wanted on my Sunday blast ) then if you put some power behind it, it steers through and seem ok - this happens every time you go from full lock left to full lock right - it seems when steering left of centre if that helps
any help wanted - Im not sure weather to pay to get it towed 50 mile down the road to powerstation or pay full price at my local subaru dealer as I could just about manage to drive it that far - I think my tek 3 etc will void my warrenty any how
cheers guys
edited to say
I have prodrive springs, anti lift kit, and 22m anti roll bar not that I think this will have much to do with it
I can't belive how lucky I was looking back, if it had been a fast bend I would have been off the road, It is so dangorous just to go like that with no warning

Hum, does it do it when parked ?
Maybe the power steering pump is on its way out, were you in neutral when it locked up and freed when you lifted the clutch (thus increasing engine speed) ?
Is the power steering tank full of fluid ?, maybe you drew air into the system when going lock to lock.
With it parked, do you get any grinding noises from the rack when turning lock to lock and how does it feel.
If its a mechanical lock in the steering rack then it would be very dangerous to drive, if its the power steering, you should be ok.
A dealership will almost certainly charge you a fortune

it was a mechanical lock
Found out what it is - a nut from the down pipe has fell off ( not sure how - the garage are telling me it was never tightened properly ) and lodged in the knuckle joint
looks like the knuckle joint has had it - they are saying mid June till I can get the part
I will try grade A subaru etc first

guys
had the car back a month or so
Im finding the car feels unsure at high speeds, on the motorway the steering feels light and the wheel seems to move easly as you go over bumps, its not noticable at slower speeds
is there any thing I can test - could putting a old knuckle joint in cuae this ?
fingers crossed you guys can give me some ideas as i don't want to take it in if its going to cost a fortune
Cheers

not that I know of - I checked the bill and it didn't have it on there
Im a bit worried I might have bent the steering coloumb ( not sure if thats the right term the bar that goes from thw wheel to the knuckle joint)
thinking back I ve only had these new tryes for 1k miles ( goodyears) and i ve only now started to give it stick
