Default Intercooler cooling system using co2

Problem:
Seeing as though top mount I/C's need running air going through them to cool the charge, and hot air is bad for performance, when a car is stationary, the heat from the turbo/engine heats up the I/C causing loss of power.

My next project is to make a co2 I/C spray to aid cooling.
if it's good enough for skylines and supras, why not scoobs?
I'm an engineer, but I'm pretty new on the scooby scene, as I bought my first WRX in Jan, so was wondering if:

1) I'm wasting my time trying to do this

2) If it works, would anyone be interested in the system?

Just thought I'd ask before I get too carried away with the idea, as I've already got a few ideas running in my head.

You can get a ready made nos kit for a couple of hundred pounds, is it worth the hassle? - http://www.mashamoto.myby.co.uk/nosshop.htm

Highlander, hes looking at using carbon dioxide as a coolant for his intercooler instead of I/C waterspray mate.

'My' thread of about 12 months ago (Projects section) really went into the subject of TMIC cooling.
The main factor here is practicality.

CO2 systems consume the bottle very quickly, ok for a 1/4 mile drag in 10 seconds (just dreaming) but the capacity/cost of CO2 plus the dead weight of it all and water spray become attractive again!

Take a look in Project now, there is a mini thread on the same subject. I seriously question the value of the water spray except for very hard track work.

I finished up with ice cubes in the spray bottle, and quenching the TMIC with cold water before a hill climb blast, and leave the spray on no matter what after leaving the start line for the race. The TMIC was still hot after the 50 second run!

You don't need the fans at reasonable road speeds.
You do need ATOMISED water spray, a hose pipe drenching is not so good!
You would need the fans to be water proof!
Could be done with a Type C top scoop, much deeper than the Classic scoop.

This can be engineered very quickly/simply, see the current 'Project' section thread there now.

I nearly said that too, but if you look further down the page on the link he gave there is an intercooler spray kit that uses NOS as the sprayed cooling medium.

Not sure if it's just me, but the alarm bells are ringing, using NOS as a coolant is fair enough, but considering TMIC's are in near proximity to the turbo and exhaust, and the flash point of Nos is pretty low. NOS contains Nitrous and a higher amount of oxygen, all the then needs is a little heat for some under bonnet fireworks of the bad kind.
It may be just me as I work for Calor Gas and because of my job, I have to know the properties of gas, and I know how dangerous it can be if you don't respect it, oops I'm ranting here, sorry!!

his link shows a nitrous oxide spray, kit which would be more then capeable of being converted to carbon dioxide

Exclamation

Been there, done that Not really good for anything other than drag days or rolling roads. it last about 20 seconds and heat quickly comes back! I stopped using mine a year ago! May plumb it up to the front mount though for scooby shootout

Use fans which were originally meant for oil coolers. Think 911's have a few such kits on their aftermarket websites. Computer fans are not really built with waterproofing in mind.
