Hi, on my MY00, I use Castrol RS10/60 fully synthetic, and change it every 3k, based on the advice given by people who are known to be knowledgeable on here. From what I read, Motul and Silkolene provide more than acceptable alternatives, although I have no personal experience of these oils. Make sure you follow the guidelines laid out on here when changing the oil, there is a set procedure which, if not adhered to, will possibly shorten the life of your engine. Do a search to find it.

The procedure micared is referring to is available here. As for oils, as he says, there are a few good ones.

Full synths are indeed the best choices, but many of the commonly available ones are too thin. Avoid the 0w/30, 0w/40, 5w/40 types. The usual recommended options round here are the 10/60 Castrol RS, Motul 300V 15w/50 or Mobil 1 Motorsport 15w/50.

Mobil 15W 50 fully sythetic is good stuff available from Motorbike shops.
Although 10W may be preferable during winter months.

A thumbs up here for the Motul 300V 15/50 - I use this stuff all the time in MY00 and also used it in my prev MY93.

After much reading and deliberation, I settled on Morris Oils fully synthetic 5W 40 as I tend to do more short journeys than long ones. My oil is replaced every 2000 to 3000 mile with the filter. I seemed to get the best information from an SIDC post from a guy called coolhead i think.

Search on the SIDC website for oil and you will soon find out what you need.

Incidently, I settled on 5W 40 after being advised to get Mobil 5W 50. This I could not find anywhere.

The advantage of the lower cool rating, is for better protection on cold starting. I previously used Magnatec 10W 40, but it appears the performance of this is just in the good advertising by Castrol, not in reallity. My car is now quieter, smoother and more responsive.

Best of luck.
