Default Turbo dumping air

My turbo is dumping air(MY99UK) I,ve got loss of power and is not idling as it should ,cuts out at junctions,Is it a big problem to get sorted as I,ve only just bought the car and was fine to start with.It was overfilled with oil when i checked so i,ve drained it out so its under max.
any ideas would be very welcome!

Does it have a dump valve? Mine did exactly that and it turned out to be the dumpvalve was fully closing.

How do you mean dumping air? sounds strange.

maybe a vacuum leak, check pipes for a split etc?

It sounds as if i do have a dump valve ,a release of air when i lift off,There is no dump valve fitted ie baileys, blitz etc.Checked the pipes, seem to be ok,if it was a Vacuum leak where would it be from? cheers

not sure of the whole scoobs boost circuit as Im more used to more basic engines where the boost is controlled by a 2 port or even single port actuator. id this is the case then there could be a leak in the feed from the actuator (dont quote me on this cause I cant say Ive seen a ported actuator on the scoobs turbo) for you to hear a boost release without a DV on there it sounds like there has got to be some sort of split in the pipes/Intercooler/maybe even manifold.

cant see any other way of the turbo releasing air. have you had the bonnet up with the engine idling and gave it some revs, see if you can see anything or maybe even hear the leak to locate where it might be coming from?

u know there isnt always a visable split in boost hoses. have u got a near by scoob member wqho you could swap pipe with to just double check, simple things like this are worth checking out before taking it too a garage.

if you do have a split youd be loosing air whilst on boost thus depending on where the ECU/actuator takes its boost reading from theres a possibility the turbo could be producing more boos than std to provide the engine wiht the std boost if that makes sence, so the turbo could be running 25psi to supply the engine with 15psi... understand?? thus you could be pushing the limits of the turbo thus decreasing its life if you keep driving it, just warning you in advance cause next friday is a distance away to get something checked out

Yes trying to take it off the road for the time being,if i drive the car sensibly taking it to 2.5-3000 revs do you think it would be ok as i might need to drive it if the wife needs her car.
I'll see if i can persuade my mate to let me loose under his bonnet!

sure, if you aint boosting the turbo it cant overrun if you like.

this is only if the fact as what I was saying about a split, it could be something completely different but I cant see what. just trying to be off some use

good luck

no worries, just had a proper look under the bonnet last nite, notice the actuator sets the boost from the turbo, so I dont think the turbo will be over boosting to give the engine the correct levels if anything IMO I would suggest you do have a boost leak somewhere (split hose) maybe worth checking the recirculating Dump Valve on the car is OK? Connected?

Does the car seem to have any loss of power?

Defo say its got a boost leak then, split hose/IC/DV area, be great if like I say you can swap them from a friends car. process of elimination Im afraid, least you wouldnt have to wait til next friday to find out then wait another week before the part arrives
