I sold my old STI instrument cluster (MY01) to a guy in the US with a WRX when I upgraded from the 180 km/h speedo to the 260 km/h one.

He seemed to have no problems as far as I know, so I guess that they just plug right in.

Almost positive I've seen a website from US that shows someone fitting MY00 STI clocks in wrx dash.

its bloody complicated, Money was looking at doing it, it would probably work out cheaper to buy a newer car with the correct dials in it

Yes it can be done. I've seen at least a couple of cars that have the newer dash in. However haven't a clue what needs doing (probably worst area is mechnaical speedo to electronic speedo??). I believe Money has now done it, maybe speak to him but i think it will need much £££ and lots of time.

Tony.

Simon Lines has put a MY04 dash in a 92, so it's possible to replace the whole dash + front door cards. It's a bit more than just swapping the dials though.

You need to find this website. I used it when looking at fitting mudflaps. Its a 2.5US 2 door in silver/grey and the guy has done various things to it including fitting an STI dash.

To put the newer dials in - its a real pain in the a*se! Just to get the newer dash in my scoob (My95) and it was an absolute mission.

To fit the newer speedo - the only way we could see doing it was to replace the whole loom. We had the newer clocks and MY95wrx loom and tried at looking at fixing the newer clocks to the My95 wrx loom. It was a joke. I think there were more wires on the speedo than on the loom.

I really wouldnt do it.

I think Simon changed to the 02 dash and dials because he did a complete engine build so could change to the 02 loom as well to make it easier?

Spoke to Grade A about it as well, they tried it on a My94 wrx. They swapped the complete loom and dials for a customer and still had problems. After 3 weeks and alot of time and money wasted, it was put back to standard

Also the dials of the sti will not fit into your old dash. Tried that one. So you need to change:

Dials
Dash
Doorcards then as the new dash is different to the old dash
Wiring loom
Heater controls

Right pain in the ****. lol

Like Will said, probably cheaper to by a newer age car. I had access to the breakers and it still cost me sh*t loads in money (and time).

This site is very good. But the guy has a 2 door and would have had the later dash in it already. Therefore changing the dials to a sti6 would have been easy as all the wiring is already there.

A guy called dji from the boards had a 99 uk wagon and he put in the sti clocks easily as wiring is there.

On the pre 97s though, it doesnt look good

Er, yeah, just a bit more than just swapping the dials in Simon's case. Most important thing, again, was that he used the 03/04 loom.

Anything can be done if you're determined enough. Whether it can be done practically/economically is another matter, and that's probably the context Andrew (assuming it was him) was speaking from.

If an easy way was going to come to light, chances are it already would have done

Well said grease monkey - anything can be done if you have the time to do it.

Grade A tried it in a 94 wrx as i said. When we spoke to them and said i was going to do it they said it cant be done. THey broke the windscreen putting the new dash in, all the bolts on the new dash is completely different to the old dash and then to top it off, when they fitted the new loom, things didnt work and i think it was said the loom inside got on fire in one part (not 100% sure on this).

Its a real pain in the ****. lol

Got offered £1500 to put the 98-00 dash into an early wrx and turned it down cause buying all the parts is expensive enough and then its a proper headache doing it. WOnt be doing it again if i get another pre 98 car. lol

Just the facelift dash is £500+ from Grade A i think

Wot? You mean the previous batch of ideas and comments haven't clued you in to the feasibility (or otherwise) of this job?

It's not like it suddenly got easier over the weekend or something.

Question

Guys, anyone know if it's easy to fit a STi7/8 dials unit to a 2002 WRX? Would any connectors need cutting?
