Do I need a new turbo?
I've noticed that when going down the gears, as the revs fall to 2500 there's a bit of a rattle.
I'm assuming that its the turbo slowing down, with back pressure? and its making it rattle.
Is this normal?
If not, do I need a new turbo or could it be something else?

Erm, the turbo wouldn't rattle...
What MY is it? Most likely to be that the up-pipe's or header's 'cover' has cracked (not uncommon). Depending on your ECU, the fuelling will switch at around the 2500rpm point when revs are dropping, which could I suppose cause a bit of a shake, which might be at just the right frequency to rattle one of these?
But I may be completely wrong I'd be suprised if it were the turbo, though!

Hi nom,
Thanks for the quick reply
It's a MY99 UK
Glad its probably not the turbo (could of been expensive)
I've just done a search (didn't think it was working, but it seems to be now) and looking through the tread results it could possibly be the heat shield?

The turbo would not rattle as you say. If the turbo impeller was loose in the compressor housing you would only hear a very hight pitched wine until seizure. Sounds like something ancillary to me probably the heat shield as said or something else like a flexible cable or something. Do a bit of troubleshooting if I were you.
