Default Does this sound right

My engine blow a few weeks ago, It is currently in for a new bottom end.

I have just spoken to the bloke and he advised that i need a new head aswell because something to do with the pistons melting.(sorry not very technical)

Also he is recommending changing the Airflow meter as 99% of the time thats what causes the engine to blow and the oil pump as well as theres loads bits of metal from the pistons.

This is totaling about £3400, does this sound right? Theres also extra little costs for Gaskets and oil etc.

Cheers

You might want to get other quotes. Try API Engines as one.

£3400 you can buy an impreza for that at car auctions liverpool.Try buying a secondhand engine. 800-1200 is the price you should pay STI engines would be a little more. Grade A Subaru should have a few.I suppose if you rebuild it you know what your getting. Not at that price for me anyway. My freind brought back two engines from Bahrain at £200. Good working order and still going well 3yrs later.I DONT EXPECT YOU TO FLY OVER THERE. the choice is yours.Ill look up a rally drivers number for you he was rebuilding impreza engines for £500 plus parts. As above API are worth a try.

What mods did you have on your car and what oil was you using.

good luck

Wink

Thanks for the plugs guys - much appreciated.

This car was booked in with us but was cancelled as the people who now have it could start it sooner than l could [ pressure of previously booked work ] :

However the price now is making a nonsense of my fixed price - no matter what - quote of circa £2 grand from memory.

You pays your money you takes your chance.

I now, should of stuck to original plan.

Didn't know whether to get the rebuild on a new lump.

Chose the new lump and cost me a small fortune.

Suppose you learn by your misstakes.

You can still drag it away and bring to us - your car - your choice !!

PS in fact our quote will be a bit cheaper now because some of the donkey work has been done already - except that we are still manically busy and there WILL be a short wait. BUT, think of the saving.
