CLUNKING ON REVERSE
MY CAR HAS STARTED MAKING A KNOCKING NOISE WHEN REVERSING ON FULL LOCK. ITS A MY97 5DR IMPREZA TURBO. I KNOW THAT THE BRAKE PADS MOVE IN THE CALIPER AND MAKE A KNOCK NOISE BUT MINE MAKES A FEW KNOCKS THEN STOPS, ANY IDEAS.....?

Possibly wear in the outer constant velocity joints?
Is there any noise when on full lock going forward? If there is any wear in these units it shows up when on full lock as it is approaching the limit of its operating angle. Eventually it means replacement units but a temporary cure (sometimes) is to inject some of the correct spec. grease into the unit under the rubber boot.
Of course it could also be the steering rack at its extreme?

Mine does exactly the same and only when going slow in reverse (not in a straight line). Feels like the the whole shock is loose and its sort of crabbing. Had it all checked out twice at different places and they told me all looks fine. Had tracking checked, new anti roll bar link rods even changed the tyres. Still does it. Not a nice sound or feeling.

Did any of you guys get to the bottom of this problem? My MY00 is doing the same thing but only in reverse. It seems to be worst when the car has been stood all day at work. When I reverse out of the space the car clunks and crabs and feels like the wheel is going to fall off. I've drove home a few times and tried to reproduce it back at home but the cars fine!! Any suggestions anybody?
