Question Idle Air Control Solenoid V5 STI Location ?

Started getting poor idle this afternoon, revs hunting between 0 - 800 rpm
and eventually cutting out when at a standstill.
I`ve pulled the maf out while idling and the engine stops immediately, also sprayed maf with carb cleaner, I`d like to clean the idle air control solenoid
out before going any further but I cant see any valve resembling the only
picture I can find on scoobynet ?
I`m not getting any detonation showing on my knocklink at all,and I aint
getting any check engine fault codes ? Any ideas guys ?

Possibly mate, but I`m pretty sure when this starts playing up you will get error codes. I remember a mate of mine had it before so I`m hoping it`ll
just be the idle air control valve needs cleaning. Now if only I could locate it !!!???

What makes you think it isn't the MAF sensor? If you think that "I`ve pulled the maf out while idling and the engine stops immediately" is some sort of sign that this part is in perfect health, this test proves nothing, one way or t'other, and has more potential to cause trouble than anything else.

The reason the engine stops immediately is because the ECU has detected a serious sensor error and has shut down. It would do exactly the same thing whether the MAF was 100% brand new or nearly shagged - which is why you can't learn anything from this test.

Anyway, to answer the question posed in the header of your post, the ISCV is located transversely at the top of the inlet manifold, immediately in front of the throttle body. Should be silver/gold in colour with a JECS part number sticker on it.

A multiplug to disconnect and undo two screws (or bolts, forget which) and it's out.

Still think you should look at the MAF sensor as the most likely problem area though. Before you start taking the ISCV out, reset the ECU, unplug the MAF loom (with the ignition off!) and restart the engine. The Check Engine light should illuminate (because the MAF is unplugged), but if your idle is now steady, it's very likely that your MAF is shagged. If the idle is still dodgy, look at the ISCV and TPS.

Unplug the maf, then start it and see how it is, then stop it, replug and start and check, if its not much diffferent its the maf. Only plug and unplug with ignition off.

Probably not the idle stepper motor, worth a check but you can't see much, to reset it connect the test (green) mode connectors together, turn ign on for 10 secs, then off, then back on for anther 10 secs, that will reposition it.

Cool

Definately was the idle air control solenoid. Pulled it off and it was covered in in oil.Cleaned it up with carb cleaner and guess what ? Problem gone.
Good job I did check it as I wouldve been well pissed if I`d bought a new maf
sensor at 70+ sheets !
