Question PE Remap on 98 - What is it ?

Folks, I've had the PE phase 2 re-map on my 98MY UK - This includes the daughter board on the ECU to allow re-programming -

Now, if I fit an FMIC (or upgrade fuel pump etc), I guess I'll need another map -

Does anyone know whether this is

a) possible
b) another 700 notes

I'm curious, because I thought I'd read that once someone had a tek map for example, the primary cost was the licence, so another map was cheaper -

What I'd also like to know is whether the car can now accept re-mapping from 'regular' mappers - (the 98 original ECU is not programmable) - e.g. could I take it to TSL, rather than drive all the way to Uxbridge and back to PE ?

Thanks,

Mark

no, tsl wont be able to map it.. take it back to PE, and they should be able to deal with it.

hmm - so where does that leave 98MY owners > ?

Also, stevebt, are you saying that tek2 can't cope with fmic etc ?

Thumbs up

PE will re-map it for you but i don't know if anyone else can even if the board is installed allready

I'm still waiting for a response from them about prices because I will also need mine remapped soon.

As far as I know the PE daughter board (I looked into this also for my MY98) is a method of allowing a custom map to be implemented onto the MY98 ECU which otherwise cannot be remapped.

Once installed for the princely sum of £700 or so, it can IIRC be remapped as many times as you like (for a much smaller fee) as you further develop/modify your car. Whether there is a limit on it's capabilities I do not know, but as it's a piggy back I would guess that it may also be very dependant on the limitations of the original ECU.

There are various versions of the PE remap board for the MY97-98 cars. Some require additional equipment beyond the usual live emulator and EPROM programmer and these can only be remapped at PE. Other types allow unencrypted EPROMs to be installed and they can be remapped by anyone who has the necessary emulator / programmer.

I would suggest that the first point of contact should be PE to see what they are prepared to do with it. If you don't get any joy then post a piccy of the board up and I should be able to identify which type it is and advise what can be done with it.

Cheers,

Pat.

Mark

I ran the Group Buy on the PE remap, have a chat with Robert at PE, from experience dont email him as it will take ages for a reply as they are always very busy, instead pick up the phone and give him a bell.

I spoke to Robert about this issue and he said a remap was around £250, though not sure if that includes the VAT !

Hope this helps

Neal

Cheers Neal -

TBH, I'm not sure I'll be going this way - I'm a bit worried about adding any more power due to the high mileage, but I figure that a better I/C will give more / smoother airflow - so less reliant on boost and also the reduced charge temps will reduce any knock

BUT, I'm not sure whether to go improved TMIC or FMIC - The hybrid FMIC is much cheaper than any TMIC, but I don't know if it NEEDS a re-map or whether I can get away with just fitting it - I'd also have to change the K+N panel for a 57i.....

Obviously a re-map adds another 250+ quid to the whole affair, plus maybe OTT for my requirements
