what is "LIMP HOME" mode

i keep seeing people say the ecu goes into "limp home" mode.

what is it????

The engine won't go abov 4000 rpm, when the ECU detects a problem that could damage the engine; it goes into "LIMP" home mode. Allowing you to get home or to the nearest garage "hopefully" without further damage

I think it also limits the boost to 0.5bar...
