Question Spark Plugs

What would happen if you fitted colder plugs than needed. For instance say your car needed NGK PFR7B's but fitted NGK PFR8B's. What would the car do/not do differently?

With 8s car should be more resiliant to det but might be harder to start from cold, apparently (and put a bigger dent in your pocket)

Plugs that are too cold will cause the car to feel very "fluffy" ie not clean running on light loads as they will foul up.

The recommended plug is the 6 heat range and most people with modded engines run 7s. NGK PFR7B. Why do you want to run 8s? Do you think you have a problem and if so what is it?
Cannot see a normally modded road car engine needing more than PFR7Bs. That said I broke the insulator on an HKS 35i and that cost me a cylinder head. I have experience of Racing 8s and 9s. They do not last that long and at £130 for the 9s they are to be avoided.

HKS plugs are not too good. But the Greddy plugs are good. Anyone used them?

Harvey

I have the problem of lift-off det as specified by Bob Rawle. He suggested changing my plugs to 7's but he thought 8's would be better.

Like Cheryl said, I am also not a big fan of HKS plugs.
Greddy iridiums all the way for me.

Bob knows his stuff & if he has suggested 8's then go with those; at the time if Bob was mapping the car he would have had all the information on the lap top. Specifically go back to Bob to ask "why".

If not I'll find out as he is mapping another car with 8's in it over the next few days for a person I know...

Oh he never mapped my car but he did have his sti2 and said it sounded just like what he had. Out of interest how much are the 7's and 8's?
I would love to know how your friend gets on....let me know!
