The ultimate question
How do all,
Have any of you guy's used BP Ultimate yet? and what are your opinions on it. I am asking, because the BP station which is just around the corner from me had just started selling it. I have up untill now always used Optimax, but the nearest Shell garage to me is 5 miles away, so if Ultimate is good gear I may start to use it.
Thanks for any feed back. Paul.

The RON seems to be a fair bit lower than Optimax (As much as 1.8 points I read somewhere) Personally found my Knocklink showing a bit more activity when I used Ultimate (once!)

i guess it depends what your car is mapped for
Certainly all the top mappers here in the UK are mapping cars for use with Optimax as it appears to have better qualities for reducing detonation.
Put Ultimate in a std-mapped UK car and your likely to see more activity on a Knocklink than the same car running Optimax. Since detonation appears to be the killer of Impreza engines, I think it's cr@p for that reason alone.
Certainly when I tested out a few tank fulls, I was getting worrying activity on my knocklink at lower revs in just about every single gear. Running Optimax I get nothing but occasional greens.

Have mapped a friends car twice with Ultimate now.
AFter constant mapping on optimax i found 2degrees more advance available with ultimate. In fact, at Santa pod a month back we got low on fuel and had to use the local BP garage for a top up... As we left the BP garage to return to the pod i hooked up my det cans to see how 'bad' the fuel really was. I had mapped the car for one/two greens on the Knocklink with the optimax, as we drove back i got the driver to use more and more throttle, checking for knock activity... NONE.
Even on WOT the knocklink was silent...
Could have been a bad batch of optimax that the previous map was on, but my own experience is not the first i have heard of ultimate being quite good.

What MY cars did you map?
Would be interesting to see if a particular ECU is more susceptible than others. Certainly didn't work well on my AE801 MY99.
