Question Boost gauge

When i got my93sti it had a gauge on it but didn't work,so i replaced the hose and it works now.Only thing is how do i know its working properly it doesn't seemed to be an expensive one (racetech) when the car is ticking over it's showing -0.5 haven't been out in the car yet so I don't know what the gauge does, what should it do,what readings should I be looking for.cheers

It should read a minus then when you start up and go it goes past 0 on to show you your boost.

Nope, this is normal. When the engine isn't on boost then it is in Vacuum. Depends how low your gauge reads, but between -0.5 and -1 bar on idle and driving along off boost and part throttle is quite normal.
