Question Oil filter size

Bought 2 oil filters for my april 99 turbo from my local subaru dealer.
Was going to change oil on Saturday afternoon, but opened the box to find a somewhat small filter than the one that is on the car !!!!

Is the the wrong one or have subaru down sized the filter (thought i had better ask before i start ranting at the parts bloke !)

The filter design was changed some time ago, the new ones are indeed much smaller than the old ones.

Don't feel comfortable putting a wee filter on !! Probably a mind over matter thing !
Presume others are putting these on as well, any feedback??
Anybody else come across this ?

Been running the smaller filter for a month now.....no problems at all.

I was told by the dealer that it's the same type as used on the STi's......apparently it's better for the engine ??

Either live with it, or if you're too wedded to the "size does matter" maxim, pop down to Halfords and buy one of theirs.

has anyone cut to 2 open to see what the differences are ? It would be interesting to know if they have reduced the pleat surface area.
This is more significant to the life of the filter but not necessarily the filtration rating which determines the oil cleanliness. (assuming it doesn't block!)

TMO..Seems thats the trend these days..Renault,Ones are only approx 1/3rd the size of the origionals..?????..I too thought that these smaller filters must for one...Get blocked more frequently...And...Would not filtrate the oil with enough flow...But these "MUST" have been tested in all conditions and found acceptable...Or Subaru...Would not have put their name and approval to them.....Just a thought...Kev.
