As above.

Very interesting, if a little disturbing as an Optimax and Millers man.

Link ECU here I come

Need to digest that a bit more though.

Interesting links, the Optimax one contains this text "Here is an extract from a post by Dr Iain Wiltshire (aka Mycroft). He usually knows what he's talking about"- make up your own mind how valid this is!

LOL!
We all know that millers leaves an orange deposit, thats been known for years, then again fuel leaves a black deposit, this too has been known for years, well, as for the fuel, optimax has been refined at 98.6, it looses all its properties the second it leaves the refinery? yeah ok no doubt given 6 months or so it will start to loose some of its properties, but i doubt you will have it 6 months in your fuel tank and as for all this stuff..... well what waffle....
How many people expect a spark plug to stay looking like new after 100 miles? have you seen your tail pipe after 100 miles? it has black deposits on it, naturally due to the burning of a carbon based fossil fuel, you get carbon as the by product... as for Mycroft... yeah we have seen what he puts down, utter s**t.

Do note if you follow the link to the GTR site (page 21) Mycroft does state that running ob and optimax doesnt damage the engine. (far too many inconsitancies for me)

I'm as dubious as you Tony. There's far more public image to be gained by doubting somrthing as major as this - and its also easy to get what answer you want from an experiment with so many variables.

I have no doubt the whole thing was written by Mycroft Big up ya self!

Hi Guys

Just seen this thread on millers and Optimax.
As i told people a few weeks back, my plugs needed changing
after 1500miles, they were caked in an orange deposit.

But the most disturbing was the tank of optimax I received last week
that caused so much problems.
Rough running, lack of boost, then overboost.
A full new tank of optimax (different garage) and millers
and she's back to her beastly self.

I will be looking to get the scooby ecu when available again, but meanwhile
I wouldn't go without the booster and optimax. New plugs are cheaper than
and engine re build!

Overboost / lack of boost caused by bad fuel?

I could see how you would possibly get rough running if it was a "bad" tank. But the boost control isn't governed by the effects of fuel. I'm no expert though.

WW,
If you would have looked at your plugs without running millers you would have found this black stuff on them, its called carbon and you get it when burning a carbon based fuel, the millers is and has always been reknown for making things a little orange, you wont have any problems with it caking your spark plugs unless your fuelling is up the shoot (too rich).

MB,
Ive encountered only one tank of bad optimax, no doubt it was due to the fact they probably just put 95 ron in that tank instead of optimax, its very rare to see in any case, even now my new JDM STi (my03) is more than happy running optimax and millers (not one flicker on the knocklink) and as ive run optimax and millers on my last car ill continue to do so (i only had it for 3.5yrs )

WW, i should point out that you wont get overboost with bad fuel, it will just cut your boost right back, if anything you should just get bad performance, id look at your ecu if its playing up! (especially if you changed your plugs after 1500 miles! )

Tony (an optimax and millers man for longer than most and not one problem with it in 3.5yrs )

Tony,

That what I though on the overboost. Problem would be in the boost solenoid or ECU etc.

Sorry about not getting back sooner but yup MB your probably right, the solenoid could be clogged up, ive had this problem once before, easy to sort out though

Where do you guys get your Millers from and exactly what product do you use?

Presumably it's recommended for my 2002 WRX Wagon Import (250Ps)?

Is optimax recommended rather than other Super Unleaded (97RON)?

Assuming the aforementioned report is not actually true....lol

We had a recent experience, where a car using Optimax had been standing for a few months. When we tried to start the car, it wouldn't fire. After checking everything else, we checked the fuel.

We put neat fuel from the tank onto a paper towel, and a naked flame to it. It put the flame out !!!!

Optimax is the only fuel I have ever seen degrade to this extent.

Get the Millers from Scoobymania.com. I shopped around, and its the best price.

Mark, I can check on this as I know some people involved in testing. Sounds like a few stories ive heard about optimax, and lighting of knock links after returning from holidays etc...
