Default thanks to greasemonkey and JGM (clutches)..

Thanks guys, due to your tip-off, yesterday I had a new clutch fitted.
£117 (incl.) for the clutch. --- Borg & Beck.
fitted at a small garage in Fratton, portsmouth.
All in all, less than a third of some of the prices I was quoted. nice, and a damned site cheaper than I'd seen elsewhere.
just two points though,

1) the pedal action feels a lot lighter than previously.

2) when "riding" the clutch, which I know is a no-no, theres a funny feeling throught the pedal.
(here comes the dodgy explanation)
Its feels like I can feel the engine through the pedal, almost like an elastic band being twanged/strummed in a jews-harp (sp.?) style vibration.

Are these anything to get concerned over?
other than the above the clutch is a-ok, tip-top, gear selection is a viable option again, so is getting into first gear at the first attempt.
Also, the old unit used to slip when boost was above 0.8 bar, now its spot on all the way up to my current 1.1bar.
regards, and thanks again

Andy

p.s. If anyone should want details then please feel free to ask, although the garage in question has asked me not to quote the price publicly for the fitting of my own kit. The same garage has also done a clutch fitment on a sti type-R that I know personally of, which was reassuring.

what you are feeling through the pedal will just be the plate bedding in. it is more noticeable if the flywheel was not skimmed. it will improve unless the fly wheel has some high spots on it, in which case it may stay like that.

there seems to be two schools of though on skimming flywheels. some say it should always be done as you are buggering a plate not doing it. the other is that if the flywheel looks okay and felt smooth before then do not skim as the heat will knacker and weaken it,I am not sure about this one though as a flywheel gets hot anyway, especially on launches.

Will take a while to bed in, mine felt a little different to start with although I don't remember any harps! lol

Take it back and get them to check it if you are concerned.. but it is more likely just the clutch friction plate and flywheel not being worn in yet..

Lightness will be down to the different pressure plate springs although I have to admit that mine felt no different.. but then your previous springs could have seized I suppose?! not sure if that is possible.. also the release bearing will have fresh grease on it so will slide along the release shaft easier, it could have been gunged up before I guess.

All the time it is working correctly and the is no loud noices.. lol I wouldn't worry.

You'd have to ring them to find out

http://www.autospares-group.com/contact.htm

The flywheel size changed at some point so think the clutch would be different than on the earlier cars..

the garage in question have offered to take over the servicing of a few scoobs in the area, they seem to know their stuff and thats half the battle.

as for B&B clutch/my00, order it via the chassis number, mine was a gc8 kit, if you mail an enquiry to autospares they will mail you back asking if you have a gc8 car.

I dont know about the flywheel yet, but will ask.
all in all, I'm as happy as a gopher in soft mud.

when I priced a delphi-b&b up at my local factors, the book did not list one for MY00, so I got him to price up a blue print kit(220+vat ). when he crossed checked the numbers I am fairly sure he said it was the same kit between years for the delphi
