What is a Knock Link

A knock link is a box about 2.5" x 4" with a series of LEDs. On the other end is a Piaazzo (SP?) microphone which is bolted to the top of the block at the rear of the engine. This listens for knock also known as det, detonation, pre-ignition or pinking. Det is a bad thing. It ruins engines. You cannot rely on your ear to hear det.
For around £135 the knock link is a very useful instrument, particularly if your car is a Jap import which was designed to run on 100 ron fuel or if you are modifying it in any way. Suppliers include BRD and Jap Innovations.
