Will a MY99 Type r ECU work in a MY96 wrx sti type ra import

No. The wiring loom is different so you won't even be able to connect it up.

Why do you want to swop the ECU?
You already have an STI RA ECU
If you want it set up for UK fuel or want more power have a look into the ScoobyECU mod by David Wallis and Pavlo.

I need to remap to uk fuel and my sti ra ecu cannot be remapped.

I haved look into the scoobyecu and sent a mail to David wallis but never recieved anything back, this was about a week ago, maybe they haven't any available yet I don't know.

I have contacted Pavlo but he's unsure when he's able to do this. Probably better if I find a scoobyecu myself and just get David or Pavlo to remap.

okay if I get a standard uk turbo ecu, could I get this remapped to my model of car, and would it fit.

It won't fit. You need an STi ECU.

You must forgive me but I'm not upto spec on subaru history, but the UK impreza classics never had a sti model did they. It was only jap models.

I've been told that you can't remap jap ecu's.

my car is a jap sti6 and i had that remapped using ecutek interface

You're both right. The EcuTeK method only works for MY99 and newer cars.

my model is a sti v2. Pre 99 STIV5/V6 ecutek will not support according to there web-site.

If you have any idea's of anybody else who could remap a MY96 jap ecu please let me know.

sorry, lol I didn't know that. Wouldn't then make sense to get a ecu of a STi5/6?? probally easier said than done. I'm getting the map on my car tweeked tomorrow i'll ask the guy what the options are and let you know.
