Welcome on board Steve,

1. IM AFTER A NEW SHAPE WRX. (POSSIBLY 2001)?? ANY GOOD?? FAST?? (ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT THANK YOU.)
IMHO unless you can afford the very newest Scoobs, the 1999's or 2000's are definately THE Scoobs to go for. The 2001 WRX is a tad on the ugly side, though there is plenty you can do to hide this. There a touch too ozone friendly making them a bit laggier than their earlier counterparts and I think they're heaftier too weight wise.

2. IM 22, WHATS NORMAL FOR INSURANCE WITH SP30 ON LISCENCE.
I really think you should phone a couple of companies or check some online quotes, you could be in for a bit of a shock . Even the base Turbo Scoob is group 17 insurance.

I'm 27, full NCB, clean licence, when my Scoob was standard the premium was £850 year. With Wheel and exhaust changes this is has risen to about £1,000.

3. DUMP VALVE... SHALL I???
I assume you mean the VTA that go "Pffft" - Only if you wanna look gay or drive round with the local Saxo boyz

4. WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR TO BUY?? AND WHAT ARE SIGNS THAT I SHOULDNT BUY.??
Look at LOTS, when you first drive one you'll think OMFG I gotta have this, but they all go like that!!! For me I'd go for an older car that's got low mileage over a new car with high milage any day.

Buying from a dealer does mean warranty which is a good thing particularly if you're new to them as they can be fragile if you don't treat it right. But dealers live in this world where they think they can sell them for what they like and for some bizaar reason they seem to manage it.

Start it when it's cold (the car), they should start straight away, easily and making no clackity noises.

Check for the usual stuff when buying a car, even tyre wear, different coloured panels, wavy panels, oil leaks etc etc

5. WHAT ARE THEY LIKE ON GETTING STOLEN?? REGULAR?? EASY?? DO THEY HAVE GOOD SECURITY AS STANDARD? TRACKER?
If you look on these pages we're having 1 go a day at the mo As standard they gotta a CAT 1 alarm fitted (since 1999), but TBH it might as well have none. As for a tracker, oh deep joy so you can see where the b**stards are taking your pride and joy

6. CAN I UPGRADE THE PERFORMANCE (IE. CHIP IT) WITHOUT BLOWING IT UP (AND) SOMETHING THAT THE INSURANCE COMPANY WOULDNT FIND OUT ABOUT?
Oh yes!!! That's where these pages come in very very handy

7. WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST WHEELS I CAN PUT STRAIGHT ON WITHOUT MODDING?
A 1999/2000 model will run 18" that look totally fab. I'm not sure on 2001-2003 models, I think it may be 19"'s but don't quote me.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW?? ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!
The running costs of these things can be very expensive 2, regular servicing is essential, fuel economy is dire at best. Parts and repairs are expensive, and you will just not be able to resist bolting bits on!!! But if your prepared to pay you will not regret it!!!!

Good luck, and have fun.

I spent ages looking for a decent car and its def. worth the wait, I dont mean to sound rude but it sounds as if (like me) you dont know what to look for and I know its a bit boring but I suggest getting that haynes manual thingy its about £17 but it could save you a fortune, cos like the lad said servicing and repairs can be pricey if you buy a egg!.

hi, thanks for taking the time to reply.

one of the reasons why i wanted a newer shape one was because i liked the flaired arches and the guy at the dealership said the old ones (the classic shape) is serviced 5000m/6months but the new ones (bug eyed shape) are 10'000m/1 year.

once again, thanks for the advice, keep it coming

servicing for the classic is every 6 months/7500miles, which isn't too bad, especially if you use specialists as opposed to dealers.

I've drove both and went for the classic over the WRX (cash played a small part too!) The WRX was quick, but it didn't FEEL quick, although the interior is a bit better.

It's whatever floats your boat really, but I wouldn't worry too much about the servicing cost, it will seem insignificant compared to the fun factor
