Power steering gear box from STI03 to WRX..
#1
I am thinking of a shorter STI03 power steering gearbox for my WRX03 as the factory one is too large IMHO and wonder if it fits directly without any mod (this is what Subaru service told me) or I need also STI power steering pump etc.
Has anyone else STI03 gearbox on his WRX and if yes is the installation easy?

Well my English aren't good but this is the name the part mentioned in Subaru "Fast" programm CD (I believe the correct is steering rack).
I mean the part that determine how many turns you need on steering wheel from full lock left to full lock right, the shorter is better as factory is 2,9 on WRX while it's 2,1-2,2 if my memory serves me right on STIs and same on EVOs.

I think your English is very good, I can only speak English and therefore think you do well to speak English as well as your own language.
The correct term is indeed "Steering Rack"
I unfortunatly cannot answer your question as I do not know.
Suggest you start another thread with the Title
"Help fitting STi Steering Rack to WRX MY03"
hopefully then someone should be able to help.
Cheers

Jim, there is a difference of the diameter of the shaft where the column meets the rack. The later cars have a larger one to the earlier cars so you'd need to be very careful, otherwise you'd have a problem with the connection. I do not know of an adaptor to get you out of trouble.
Otherwise the racks are the same dimensionally, you just might need to wind the steering rod ends in or out a bit to allow for the wider / narrower track.

Damn typos there must be an epidemic !!

APIDavid,
I am told that fitting the later steering column will allow the late rack to run on an early car... but the column may be a little shorter, so there may be a necessity to modify the upper cowling.
