Under the dash by the steering column are two black single spade connectors.
plug them together
switch on ign but dont start
The Check engine light will flash the number for the fault code.

See this site..

Clunker, what model year of WRX do you have?

For an MY2000 and earlier (classic shape) car, you can read stored DTC codes via the method mentioned by Rob. If you want to read real-time data from the ECU, you will need something like DeltaDash.

If you have an MY01 onward car, you will need either DeltaDash, or an OBDII (ISO9141) compliant interface and software.

Search a little harder.. they are often taped back to the loom..

there should be a yellow select monitor plug, then two green and two blacks and I think there is an odd black on it's own.. not sure what that is for though.

JGM - I think it's the ABS or airbag diagnostic connector...

Real time data monitoring is possible in a pre MY97 Scoob, but it's a PITA to get it to work...
