Smokey MY03
#1
Bit of a wierd one, this.
Never noticed any smoke from it before, and am careful to let it warm up / cool down for a reasonable amount of time.
Pulled up at my mates house the other day as he was outside. I sat in the car talking to him though the window with the engine running.
After a couple of minutes, there was quite a bit of blue smoke coming from the exhaust. Revved it gently and more came out.
Its never happened before, and it hasn't happened since.
Car has convered 8000 miles.
Any ideas?

Funny that - here in SA we have quite a few smoky 03's that use a bit of oil (100-150mls per 1000km). U can also see smoke at high rpm gear change, or flooring the car from low revs at wot.
Concerning!

Welcome to the club I could say...
But, I didn't realise any smoke from my car except during warm up, it drinks oil as MANY other WRX03 although when I ask somebody with the same car to have a look I always take the answer that his car doesn't suffer from oil consumption, after few days they tell me I am correct and they found less oil in the dipstick!
Strange ah!
I changed from Motul V300-10W/40 to Castrol RS-10W/60 but have found that 500ml of oil between 5000km service intervals is "normal".
Quite interesting that this is a common problem on MY03 due to softer piston rings or at least this is what have read!

So, according to rumour, the oil seeps/gets forced out somewhere around the piston rings? We have many smokey 03's in South Africa and when someone asks about it locally, the usual reply is "they all do it". Some have been known to use less oil after the run in period. I probably add 500ml ever 3500kms or so.
