I am having a new short motor, clutch and gearbox fitted by a main dealer(approx 7k) as a result of damage sustained due to theft to my 98 wagon.
Does a short motor only mean crankcase and crank, or are the cylinders included?, will the rebuild be any good with the existing pistons/rods/heads?
What sort of warranty should I expect?
thanks in advance
Matt

cylinders?
the short block is the engine block, the crank, the bearings (mains and big ends) the connnecting rods, the gudgeon pins and the pistons.
It is basically the entire rotating mass of the engine excluding the heads (cams, and valves + assemblies).

Thanks
When I meant cylinders I wondered if like on some bikes, the bores where detachable from the crankcase, what with it being horizontally opposed.
How can i tell if the shortblock they are fitting is a recon or new?
regards
