Hi all

i have a 93 wrx full decat, K7N induc. Blitz 77 plugs, bailey dump valve and my Z4 ecu chippd from scott t to 15.5psi bout 5-6 weeks ago.
Now the car, for the past week has hesitated on gentle accelration and on hard whether hot or running cold.
Last night i removed the K&N and dump valve, i now have a tad less power at high revs but runs better but the hesitation is still there. I have no CEL's and have tried re-setting the ECU.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
I'm guessing at the coil pack(s) and/or fuel pump not good enough or even the actuator? i dont know!!!!. Or could it even be something else?

Thanks for any ideas / help

tim

You've got the right ideas. Sounds like coil packs to me...
ScoobyECUs tend to show up any weakness in the coils and in the wastegate solenoid.

You could try regapping the plugs to 0.6mm as a test. If this makes things better then there is at least a dodgy coil. It's not a proper fix though!!

Now for the bad news, they're £59 EACH from a dealer, and you may need anywhere between 1 and 4 of them (I'd not go 2nd hand on these, as it could prove a false economy - unless they're cheap!)

Group buy on coils, anyone??? As I need at least one (maybe more) too!

Look on the drivers side inner wing, at the back of the airbox. There is an assembly with a black box, a brown cylinder type thing and a shiny cylinder. The shiny one is the wastegate solenoid.

I doubt that this is causing the hesitation - problems here are usually such things as the boost limited to 0.6 bar.

It's an easy fix involving a spray can of brake cleaner and putting the car in test mode. I'm about to disappear now, so I'm afraid you'll have to do a search for "Cleaining boost solenoid" I remember a thread from about 2 years ago...

disconnect the Lamda sensor and see it it runs any smoother.
It won't log any error codes for while.
If it runs smoother then change it for a universal 4-wire item which gives a better ground connection.

from autospares, com (or something like that, about £35)

If that's no good then clean the MAF with a cotton bud and some carb or brake cleaner.

Plugs or Coil packs are also a very likley cause.

Thanks for the replies guys

Over the weekend i cleaned my boost solenoid valve, put intake and injector cleaner through it, cleaned the MAF and checked for damaged leaking pipes.

Still no luck im afraid, im going to try taking the plugs out and setting them at 0.6 to see if it runs better as dnd stated, may point out the coil pack being dodgy.
Me plugs are only about 4months old so cant see them being a problem.
Oh and im using shell optimax, without octane booster because i got a scooby chip which is supposed to be ok for fuel alone.
Another prob is that the boost is not reaching 15.5psi. The lower the gear the less boost it can get and quicker it falls. When i am in 5th it can reach 15psi and holds for a while then drops slightly - will this be part of the prob with coil packs or the actuator?!?

Part number: 22433AA330

The only difference I could see was a different colour "potting compound" used to seal them... The resistances were the same, and import ones worked in my car.
