First time it has ever happened, MY97 turbo.
Went out this morning turned the key, ignition lights came on but that was it no clicking or anything.
Headlights work OK so I think the battery is OK was fine yesterday.
It was raining very hard all night, possibly damp somewhere?
I am at work now so will have to have a look at it tonight any ideas would be appreciated???????

When turning the key on mine to igntion on position all the lights & electrics would work however turning the key to the start position would do nothing (engine did not turn over). At first i checked the battery, fuses, earths, tested the starter motor etc. I discovered there was no power getting to the starter solenoid which lead me to believe that the alarm was at fault. So I disconnected the alarm & re tried again but still would not turn over. In the end it turned out to be a faulty ignition switch.

Did it gradually get worse or all of a sudden.

Mine only lasted three days when i first noticed the starting problem. There were times it would start straight away but then there were times I would be sitting trying for over 20 minutes. In the end I left my car on the drive two-three weeks trying to find out why. What puzzled me was everthing else is working -like radio, lights, all electrics, so I assumed the ignition switch was fine.
Also mine is a jap(import) stiII - does not come with factory fitted immobilizer. UK model have a factory fitted immobilizer fitted standard- not sure which model years though.
