Can someone enlighten me on which turbo is supposed to be in my JDM MY97 wrx saloon. (reg in dec 96).

The TD04 or 05.

yes it should have a VF22 on, tdo5 was on the pre facelift cars

Whats a 98 STi got? I read somewhere its a roller bearing one... Mine whines like it is one.

should have the same
my 96 wrx had the vf22 as well, but its the very first of the 97 facelift cars

unfortuanly i blew it up and had to stick a td04 in as a stop gap

Have been trying to read up on VF22, from many opinions it looks like its thought of as fragile. And safe boost levels to be used somewhere between 1.1 to 1.25 bar.
Thats buggered up my thoughts for modding, as running 1.1 on standard setup.
