Is it possible to do away with the MAF, and have a MAP sensor used in conjunction with an ECUTEK remap?
Reason being; I think yet another MAF is on the way out
plus once the mods I have lined up are on and mapped, I dont want to risk the MAF being the weakest (by far) link in the chain..
bad enough for the engine to go normally, let alone after some serious modding and a custom remap!!
Also; could someone possibly explain the benefits of using a 3 port boost solenoid?
My car is MY00 btw,
thanks in advance.

AFAIK
The three port allows for closer "tighter" mapping of boost, the two port can cause boost spiking according to differing weather conditions and that means mapping the boost response in a way to allow for that. Basically you lose out on spool up. The three port vents pressure from the actuator in pulses as opposed to a steady stream which means that a sharper spool can be used with less risk of spiking in cold weather for example. It's not essential but hopefully you can see the advantage.
Nathan..

I think John Banks is looking at using the MAP sensor and some signal conditioning hardware to replace the MAF sensor.
On the face of it, it's a simple problem to solve - you need to read the MAP sensor voltage and the engine RPM and then do some maths to get a MAF reading. (You also need some way of doing temperature compensation IIRC.)

John,
Ok, I'll give it a try then. Have got a knocklink fitted now, so will have a play tomorrow.
Lol, now off to try and find a picture of the dawes fitted on a MY 99
Thanks for the help, Phill

Sorry to ask a resonably daft question, but what benefits will I gain by fitting the Dawes ?? I already have a target boost of 17.4 PSi, so can't really increase the boost much more, or can I ??
