Does anyone know what this hose is for?

Paul, This is a drain pipe for the A/C IIRC. I've used the same grommit for my gauge wires with no problems encountered so I think it'll be OK to use.

I was fitting an earthing kit to my 99 classic and to make the connection to the ECU I took the wire through a grommet that has a very soft rubber hose going through. This is above and to the right of the ECU. I am just wondering if I am upsetting something by squashing this hose with a cable?

...as long as you don't completely squash the A/C pipe, as it wouldn't be able to vent obtained moisture. Unless you don't have A/C. But I'm not sure whether that pipe exists whether you have A/C or not... so I'll get me coat.

Thanks....I think
So it seems that this pipe collects the moisture from the AC heat exchanger (as the water condenses on the cold heat exchanger)and dribbles it onto the floor outside, so don't squash it or your passenger will have wet feet

Mark, I made the "kit", Lots of 8awg cable to :
Suspension turrets x 2
inlet manifold x 2
alternator
ECU bracket
All connected back to the battery, negative side obviously
There is loads of threads on this project, some people say it makes loads of difference, others say not. I'm in the not camp, but at the end of the day it was only £12 and not the £200 that HKS charge for their kit! (but maybe thiers works!!! )
