Hi guys

Hope someone can shine some light on my problem.

I have a UK MY98 Impreza Turbo (model before they changed the body).

The problem is basically spluttering/chugging when driving. It's not consistent, happens every few minutes. It also may take a while to come back into it if the car has been lying idle for a couple of days.

To date I have tried uprating the fuel pump, MAF, idle control valve and the throttle position sensor.

At my wits end now as its been going on for about the last 6-8 weeks with no improvement.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

how about fuel filter/ dodgy fuel?
Is the spark getting to the plugs ok?
Is there an immobiliser fitted? perhaps a loose connection cutting out the ignition or fuel pump wiring.

Fuel filter is ok. Haven't tried the plugs or immobiliser.

Forgot to mention earlier the mods are H&S Downpipe, centre section and K&N Panel filter.

Thanks for that.

Question

I'd check spark at plug and maybe coil packs iffy? Have the plugs been changed recently?

Thumbs up

Not too sure when the plugs were last changed. Definately not overdue though but will give them a go.
If that doesn't sort it then the coil packs will be next.

Thanks for all the info guys.

Do you have the ECU fault codes if any? When my OE spark plugs were naff (due to much higher boost), the car would missfire...although I could only feel it do it sometimes and not others...not to the extent you're getting.

The ECU fault codes showed up as the MAF and the Throttle Position Sensor hence the reason for changing those first.
The check engine light only came on once, just before I checked the ECU fault codes and gave me the above faults.
