the bugger started fine.. question is can i put the old cam sensor into where the crank one was??

No, sensors are different, but other trick I have found is when they fail, a small bag of frozen peas helps cool the sensor down, so after around 10mins, its driveable again, worth remembering if it ever breaks down when out somewhere. Yes,Ok I appreciate you hopefully break down near shops, but helpful hint.

mart 360. had this problem last year. once the car warmed up. if you switched it off it wouldnt start back up, until cooled down. or sometimes would just cut out in traffic. short term solution spray the crank sensor with "easy start car spray" . the car starts straight away. i got a sensor from a breakers yard £ 30.
