Cool

Can anyone recommend a good dump valve? Have thought about buying one, but I would want one that sounds like the the cheeping/chirping you get from rally cars. Not much into the the ptssst you get from some dump valves commonly found in RS Turbos's Astra/Cavalier Turbo's etc. Have heard a road going evo with a 'chirping' one. Sounded cool.

I probably need to grow up a little but sod it!!

I konw it feels a bit childish enjoying all the WOOSH, TING, PSHHT! stuff, but hey - you could always buy a nice M***eo if you want to be sensible! After all, big wings and stickers aren't really necessary, they just don't make a noise. I'm sure they still make people think the worst at times

I have a Forge DV and I think it sounds lovely. Combined with my Blitz metal cone filter, induction noise is loud enough and you can "play" with it - you get different noises depending on engine load/throttle position - a sort of chatter at low boost, but a much louder expulsion of air on high boost, it's great fun.

I used to have noisy bikes and I guess I just never grew up

If that's what you want just remove the DV completely and blank off the pipes/flange. Then start looking for a cheap turbo to put in the car when you come to sell it (or before if you break the original one quickish).

Remove the std DV Blank off the hoses (wheel nuts do the trick)That is how u get the WRC chirp

(sitting back waiting for the abuse about blowing up the turbo)
(Which is nonsense,a year later and im still a happy wee chirper)

Cheers Grunt

If you're worried about blowing your turbo, stick with the dumpvalve; that's what it's there for.

IMHO the best sounding dump valve is a silent one.

Have to agree. Car's designed to use a recirculating system, and I've never understood the desire to scare old grannies...

Cool

Lol at scaring grannies!

Lets face it though, with the decat system and the rasp similar to Colin Macraes Subaru of the 90's, its already gonna scare people! Might as well go the whole hog! But not if killing the turbo is the way to do it!!

Still think the rally chirping would be great to have on the car for the amusement factor.

The reference to (potential) turbo damage came from the scenario of not using a dumpvalve at all.

Quick question regarding the induction kits I noticed a couple of you have mentioned. Which model of Scoob do you own? I have been advised to steer clear of induction kits due to the MAF getting screwed up because of them which in turn buggers the engine (I have a UK MY99 Turbo).

Am not sure if the newer ones they are selling are any better.

Also, where is the cheapest place to buy DV's, Induction kits etc?

I am also considering a de-cat downpipe to go with the Scoobysport centre and back box I already have. I know performance is better with this mod as is the noise also!

Cheers,

Ally

Nissan 200sx's (S13 model) do the turbo chatter thing on their own as Nissan thought it a good idea to not bother putting a dump valve on the car as standard. My mate put a Baileys DV on his 200sx and it is far more amusing than any turbo chatter. combined with a loud poppy bangy straight through mongoose exhaust, it scares the living **** out of people

It's not just the induction kit breaking the MAF sensor you've got to think about. Some of them cause the sensor to under-read (without actually damaging it), and that in itself can knacker the engine.

Am not sure if the newer ones they are selling are any better.
The K&N one seems to be well regarded by those on here who've tried it. To be honest though, a good (Green, K&N) panel filter is a safer all-round bet, and will perform just as well as most induction kits you're likely to find, without any of the risks.

I am also considering a de-cat downpipe to go with the Scoobysport centre and back box I already have. I know performance is better with this mod as is the noise also!
This will give you an easily noticeable performance boost, much more than any change you could make to the induction system!
