Question

Ive just recently been having difficulty starting the car its pi..ing me off. Sometimes its will start & sometimes it wont. Whats the best way for checking the starter soleniod & starter motor. Can the soleniod be purchased separatly or are the two together. After reading the owners manual i noticed that it advises when starting the vechile to press down the clutch pedal. Why is that?

i had a few problems startin my car after a major overhaul! i just connected a wire to the spade connector on the strarter then direct to the + of the battery! that worked fine to try it! obviously would look suspect if i done this all the time!
