MBC Hoses ?

I have a MY00 UK Turbo and will very soon be fitting a Dawes MBC. I have been told to use the esisting hose already fitted to the car but have heard conflicting views about different diameter hose for connecting the MBC ?
Now the pipework currently on the car does not have a large diameter.....what would the benefits be however if I were to use silicone vacuum hose with a larger diameter instead ?
