Cool

This is on an MY93

After careful running in for 2500 miles over the last 6 weeks, I was concerned that the engine took on a rough 'wobble'just off of idle.
The knock sensor and oil pressure had not given any indication of a problem, however fearing the worst, I prepared the car for the engine to come out 'again'.
After removing the radiator and front pulley belts and whilst looking at the front pulley I noticed it did not look central!
I unbolted the pulley to find the key in the crank had spun in the keyway and almost scored it out, therefore making the pulley run off centre! Why???
Would over tightening the belts cause this or could it just be ' one of those things', which I am reluctant to believe as in my experience there is no such thing.
Suppose the good news is the engine can stay put.

Any ideas

Ivan

I'm very surprised to hear a woodruff key has managed to slip down ?

I hope nothing else is damaged.

Had the same problem on mine except the pully on mine had been spinning on the shaft and the key had machined the pulley opening into an oval shape thus causing the pulley to wobble and throw the belt off also the bolt holding the pulley on was only finger tight, all i can think is that when the cam belt was done ( not by me )then they had not located or not tightened the pulley up properly .Surprised it had lasted for six months before it finally threw belt off . Hope this helps.

Cool

Sorry but seems my explanation was not what it should have been!!??
The key did not move out of its keyway on the crank, it tore the pulley keyway out. The key is still in the crank with the cambelt driver cog still on it! But that is another problem!
Only the pulley that drives the power steering and air con was damaged, however getting the cam drive pulley off is causing a headache, I made a puller up today so will give it a go in a minute.

David off topic but as your reading this.... STI V4 heads and cams, what are the differences compared to standard WRX MY93 and can they be used without changing anything?

Cheers
