When driving home today I went to overtake a car and not a lot happened, I seem to have lost all boost. I've been having problems with my boost solenoid but cleaning it and finding one of the hose’s had fallen off had cured my intermittent boost problems but what’s gone wrong now. What should I check and because I’m a useless mechanic please use basic terms.

So far I’ve checked all the hoses that I can see and cleaned the boost solenoid again but still nothing. Would it be my lambda sensor which I can’t find, does anyone have a picture of where it is?

I’m going to book it into the garage on Monday but there usually busy so any help in getting me some boost back would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Black scoob,

Abit more info needed.
Do you have a boost gauge?
If so will it boost past 0.5bar?
Any whooshing sounds near the intercooler?
noises /sounds etc

Let us know.

no i don't have a boost gauge. If the intercooler is where my bonnet scoop goes to I can't hear any strange noises.
Is there any chance I could hace screwed up while cleaning my boost solenoid, I cleaned it with wd40. Whats the little black square thing next to the solenoid, does that need cleaned and where do I find my lambda sensor

lambda is in the front manifold on early wrxs or its in the downpipe on the later ones
has your check engine light come on?
have you checked your ecu to see if there are any fault codes stored?
check out dereks site if you dont know how to

so if I'm standing in front of the engine is my lamdba sensor the little sensor under the air conditioning unit. it has one wire coming from it. Also my wastegate solenoid is making load noises, can that get stuck open? I have another wastegate solenoid but it only has two hoses coming out of it, my one has three. Is there anyway of fitting the two hosed solenoid, what do I do with the the third hose

Must be a Black Wrx thing! Mine is a 1994 and also has a boost problem. It accelerates ok then when it hits 5000rpm it takes off! Was told it was probably the boost control solenoid. Havent done anything yet as didnt want to fiddle with it. Think i know where the solenoid is, but confirmation will be accepted. Any tips on how to clean or fix this similar problem is welcome. Thank.
