URGENT HELP RE: WHAT FUEL?
#1
Hi Everyone
Am new to scoobynet and scooby ownership. Picked up new WRX yesterday from local dealer. We asked if Super Unleaded should be used in tank as it says 198 RON on petrol flap, he said "Absolutely no need at all to do that, it will run perfectly fine on unleaded!"
Obviously we weren't 100% certain, but took his advice and half filled the tank with unleaded shortly after leaving the dealer. Since this morning engine sounds slightly different to yesterday eg. noisier/cammy. Sorry to sound totally thick, BUT is this a normal sound or is it likely to be something to do with the unleaded petrol?
If you can help, would really appreciate as def don't want to damage anything by putting the wrong fuel in.
Thanks

I take it when you mean new, it's absolutly brand spanking new.
Is it a JAP import? If yes, super (98) is absolute minimum.
If it's a UK spec car then under UK regulations it HAS to be able to run on normal unleaded (95 RON). But you'll probably get performance and economy benefits if you run on super 98.
Unless you've had the Prodrive performace pack (PPP) which I beleive only allows you to run on super (98).

If you're willing to pay for the car why take the chance of 95ron, i never run mine on anything else than optimax despite it saying 95ron can be run on the filler cap.
Where can you get hold of this 198ron fuel, it should allow for some pretty good power!!

My STi-8 has 98 ron written on the filler cap despite it being a Type UK which I think is a bit misleading. I always use Optimax unless I am empty and 95 is the only thing available.
