Angry

My mate has bought a K-reg Legacy Turbo.

He was flooring it to 5K to 5500 rpm and a few gears. Going into a corner, put it into 3rd gear and floored it!! Nothing happened exept from a normal 2 litre accelerating!!

There was no boost from the turbo!!

The actuator seems to be a bit rusty and the rod will not move in and out with the throttle. Could this have siezed??

All pipes seem to be ok. I haven't checked it myself. All this was over a phone!

Any help would be great! (as I'm an XR2/RS1600i man!!) I luv Scoobs too!
Cheers
Robin.

Surely the actuator is for the wastegate, which means, if it was stuck, you'd get boost until the overboost sensor cut in and stopped the action.

It sounds like you've simply blown the turbo unless I s'pose the wastegate is jammed open.

The 'rod' won't move with the throttle - only with boost pressure to open the wastegate when the boost gets too much.

(these comments are based on the Impreza system, but I assume the theory's the same)

Cheers m8 for the reply.

There isn't any signs of the turbo being blown i.e. smoke.

I reconed the wastegate is jammed open so the pressure is just getting leaked out and no build up of the boost.

A mechanic for the local Scooby garage (over the phone) reconed it was the wastegate too. He said it may be just stuck where the rod enters the unit (as if it was stuck at an angle)

Any idea where these can be bought seperatly?

Rob.

there is a small valve connected to a pipe on the charcoal canister just behind o/s/f headlight big black canister with 3 pipes i think it's the only valve there and if that goes you get no boost just try blocking it off and going for a run . bit cheaper than a turbo i should think
