i have fitted a hks fuel cut defender to my93 wrx. it was fine untill i turned the engine off and back on. I got a check engine light. after about ten mins of driving it goes off again. Why does it do this? the 12v feed is from the cigarette lighter and the earth is to the negative post on the battery.

Best bet would be to read the ECU error code

See here

It also depends if you can connected the FCD correctly. Off the top of head there is 4 wires, +12v, Ground, Map sensor signal in(From Map sensor), Map sensor signal out(From FCD to ECU). The FCD then changes the map sensor signal so to make the ECU think there is less boost.

Wink

Post where you have connected each wire, you have already said that you have connected the +12v to the cigarette lighter.

Try powering it from the 12V feed to the ECU, so that it powers up with the ECU.

Question

Have you definitely got the Map sensor wires to the FCD connected the right way round ie the pressure signal wire should be cut, the FCD should then have a IN and OUT wire, the IN should be connected to the cut wire coming from the loom to the ECU and the OUT should be connected to the cut wire going to the ECU. If this is ok, the next step would be to check the ECU fault as JGM has already said by connecting the diagnostic plugs under the steering column
