Got a 99 turbo and the biting point seems really high.it's done 12k and there's judder sometimes when it's cold.
Does this mean it's boned, and if so how much to fix?
Very grateful for any help

Thumbs down

Your looking at £350 for a Helix or A.P clutch
About £250-£300 to fit it!!!!!!!!!!
Not much change from £750
Sorry

not necessarily boned i dont think. Clutch judder when cold is quite a common problem so I'm told. To due wuith the material the clutch plate is made of to take the power of the scooby. Try a couple/few of hard standing starts through 1st, 2nd and 3rd ... This may help by 'cleaning' the surface off a bit and reduce/stop the judder.
This was a fault on some 98/99 cars. The judder gets worse until it happens even when the clutch is warm. dealer will replace.

hope this helps

cheers,

Bumcrack,

I have exactly the same on my MY99 with 14K. I find that the clutch bites high and then comes together very suddenly making down changes in particular not very smooth. I have noticed that by carrying out just one heavy start the bit of judder does improve substantially and make the clutch come together a bit more smoothly, it doesn't help the high bite though.

Take it to your dealer without delay, get them to replace it with an upgraded clutch under warranty. As has been said above, don't accept the "characteristic" cack. Clutches shouldn't judder, full-stop. Especially after 14k, unless you do regular full throttle starts.

MY99 should still be under warranty - 3 years. I also have MY99 and got a new clutch and flywheel on warranty a month ago at 26,000 miles. Go talk to a Subaru dealer and don't accept that it's a "characteristic" of the car!

Done the standing start (purely in the name of science you understand),which has got rid of the judder when cold.

The trouble is that it's an import for Holland, but I've got a Car Care plan warranty. Will check the details and will try to get it changed.
Mine feels the same as yours BHORT regarding the gears shifts.

Thanks for the advice guys
