Urgent Help - Broken speedo cable
#1
My speedo cable has broken on my 95' wrx. The elbow connection from the gear box which is about 6" long. Does anyone know if this is the same part as fitted to uk cars, is a wrx special or is fitted by the importer?
Have a look under the bonnet for me please.

I got one from Central Subaru or Grade A breakers (can't remember which) last year.
for about £25
But most places didn't really know what I was talking about.
Not sure if MY93-96 UK models had the same 'split' cable or not.
However it promptly broke again ..
due to my reduction gearbox sticking/seizing occasionally (fixed now)
You'll probably find you can fix or 'bodge' the broken cable.
If its gone just at one end, you can usually shorten it by a cm or two and refix (crimp and glue) the end to the shortened inner cable.
Or get a suitable piece of generic speedo cable to replace the broken inner cable.
Or there is a mail order company in London that do cables that could probably fix it for you (sorry, cant remember the name)
PS I assume your check engine light has come on also. Its fun driving in 'get you home' mode and limited to 4500 rpm isn't it
(but you get good fuel economy)

Thanks for replies guys.
I told my wife before she left for work this morning that the check engine light might come on.
Tonight she complained that the car cut out when trying to pull away.
Now I know why my tyres don't last long, I thought it was me.
£25 does not seem too bad for the cable compared to other cars, and I will check out the gearbox thingy.
