Cool

Hi Kev,
I got mine out by gently levering them at the top with a flat bladed screwdriver (wrapped in a bit of cloth to prevent scratches). They are quite robust so you shouldn't damage them.
I sprayed mine originally with normal satin black spray paint but it chipped off in a couple of weeks, so I redid them with black Hammerite Stonechip Shield ( from Halfords)which has a slightly textured satin black finish. It looks good and no chips after 5000 miles (perhaps I should spray my bonnet with it!!

Hope this helps.

Cool

Better to unscrew the indicator and put your hand in to unclip the wedge. ( Assume it's MY99 onwards).
Don't fancy taking the chance with a screwdriver.

Cool

I used a screwdriver, with no problem. They're not that tight so it ain't too difficult!

Dead easy to remove - just lever them out gently. Put something against the paintwork to stop damage!

Painted with a single coat of touch-up stick. Stops the front looking quite so silly . Now if only someone could come up with such a simple mod that worked for MY01...

Thanks for all the advice but I couldn't easily lever them out without risking the paintwork, so I just got a pair of long-nosed pliers, grabbed a fin and pulled. Hey-presto !

i took mine out this past weekend and i dicided to take out the blinker right above them. reached around the back, and pushed down the tab, and presto, it popped right out

i was going to paint it black as well, but my paint wouldnt hold to the orange paint, so i just went and bought so paint stripper and took off the orange paint. that was quite difficult.. but it looks a lot better in my opinion.

Thumbs up

Hi all,

My dealer took them out and painted them silver (my car is silver). Did a lot of miles after that and no chipping whatsoever. And he did it for free!

greets, Peter

Yeah.....What were they thinking about by having them painted orangey/brown ?? I'd love to know who are these people who decide these things...
Judging by the MY01's front end I reckon they all must be off their heads or something!

Question

Has anyone tried to replace the plastic grille with mesh of any sort?

That would look very trick!

I went to the hardware store and for $2.05 got a sheet of heavy gauge flyscreen aboutthe size of the bottom grille opening (where you put your FMIC) which is enough to do about 20 cars i reckon

Now I know how to get the grille out, I just need to find a way of securing the flyscreen!

My car is white so it should look pretty cool, heaps better than the orange grille any how!

Hi Nige,

A friend of mine has done this and it looks great. btw I've put mesh into the big air intake (where your reg. plate is situated). Looks good too.

Cheers, Peter

Thanks Peter. How did he actually attatch the mesh to the openings where the orange grilles go? Do you have any photos of it?
Cheers
