I would like to change the oil in my sti 8 & having spoke to nearly all the Subaru dealers in Yorkshire I am even more confused. They all say different. Some say full synthetic others say semi synthetic and different grades as well.

looking for help & opinion!!!!!!

Seeing as it's a new-ish car, what you use depends on the mileage.

If it's got less than 7.5-10K on it, use a good semi synth like Shell Helix Plus, Mobil Super S or Motul 200V, all at 10w/40 weight.

If it's got more than 7.5-10K miles on it, use one of the good full synths, for example Mobil 1 Motorsport 15w/50, Motul 300V 15w/50 or Castrol RS 10w/60.

Might also be worth looking here if you haven't already.

Yes. Assuming this stuff was put in at the 1000 mile service it's far too early.

Yes. If the current oil's been in for 3000 miles it's ideally time to change it anyway. Put one of the semis suggested previously in now, change for more of the same at 7000 miles and get full synth put in at the 10K service.

Not sure what the person who told you that was getting at exactly. As stated previously, the full synths that work best in these engines are either the 10/60 RS, or 15/50 Mobil/Motul. The thinnest oil you will commonly see recommended here is Silkolene Pro-S 10/50. Even once the engine is fully bedded in, 5w/40 full synth is thinner than ideal, unless you live in the arctic.

Thanks again greasemonkey,
I put in the motul oil 5w40 in between the services again on recommendation. Won't just listen to anyone again. As u can see only just joined scoobynet and enjoying it very much, lots of good info.
Will drop the oil next weekend for some shell helix semi synthetic.

Thanks again,
Andy.....
