HELP,
I have just bought my first Impreza Turbo a 96 model, 42000 miles, and have noticed a fairly loud rubbing/grinding noise eminating from from it starting at about 20-25mph. It is very similar to a U/S wheel bearing but I think they are OK, and it has just passed an MOT.
Both front wheels get quite warm even during fairly normal driving, but I expect this is normal (extra weight etc.), the front disks are quite worn (22mm) The back brakes never seem to get warm, the car does not pull to one side or make any further noises under braking, conclusion - brakes are OK.
I do not think that it is the clutch as it is speed related, not revs.
One silly question - does the air rushing into the bonnet scoop make this type of noise??
Can anyone give me advice?, before I go and spend a ££££ fortune getting the dealer to check it.

In answer to your 'silly' question - i do not think it is the air intake, mine doesn't make that noise. could be wheel bearings or drivehsaft bearings. I it worth taking it to your local Scooby dealer, there is a good chance they will know what it is straight off and it is unlikely they will chharge you for the privilige of fault finding, assuming they do not need to strip it down.
