Scooby Power?

You ever get to that stage where you just fancy that little bit (or a lot) more power? Or is it just me?
I'm wondering what the limits of tuning a UK scooby are....once you've got past the exhaust system and the ecu replacement where do you go next? I haven't seen anyone with a UK scooby over 300bhp and was wondering whether or not I should look at an STI instead?

Agree with Moray, if you want 300 BHP form a car, a UK car is not the one to do it to.It would cost so much money to get 300 reliable BHP from a UK car, you would be better with an Import or P1 both of which with minor mods would break 300.

...and 360bhp is tops for reliability and you will need a closed deck block and in the region of £8k. If you do this it makes no difference if you start from an STi or a UK car. Why? 'coz you would start the build from an STi mootor.

Guys,
Without spending an absolute fortune and affecting reliability what sort of maximums of power can I expect from a `94 WRX (260PS)? Include an ECU upgrade in your estimations if you would!

Hi Kevin
With a Possum Link, 3" exhaust and induction kit you can expect to safely run a true 300 - 310 bhp but you must try if you can to avoid going for the power figures but try and concentrate on how the car feels.
It is far too easy to brandish power figures about as the only true way is to take the motor out and put it on the dyno bench to establish its actual power.
Put it this way, you would have a very fast car!!
Give me a ring on 0118 981 0832 and we can tak about what plans you may have and what is most important for you.
Kind regards
Ben

andrew,
A scoobysport backbox and a blitz conefilter will take your car to ~295bhp for ~£450. Add a decent downpipe (Powerengineering T75 twin dump, Scoobysport etc...) and you should easily make 300bhp.
FYI: My car (STI 3 V-Limited, Blitz cone, PET75 downpipe and Cat centre section with Scoobysport backbox gave 295bhp with the boost limited to 14 PSI, so it will make 300bhp+ at standard boost (16psi). These figures are from Powerstation's rolling road, which tends to give lower figures than most but seem to find standard cars giving within 2 or 3 bhp of the manufacurers quoted figures. The car once gave 346bhp on Power engineering's rollers with the same exhaust/filter and a slightly different engine map.

PS: those figures were on standard UK super unleaded without Octane boost.
Oh, and you may want to see if Regal Engineering still have the full BPM twindump cat 3" system they want to get rid of, Steve McCulloch seems happy with his one.
I prefer the sound of my car to that of an HKS equipped one, but that's just a personal opinion... Imagine a stronger, deeper sounding scoobysport backbox and you are on the way there!

Andy[/quote]Andy on my STI IV I had HKS cone induction kit and super drager exhaust price of filter+exhaust is about £800 and should give 300to305 bhp with octane boost. The HKS kit is the best by far with the air filter giving a nice induction noise and the exhaust note is just right, quite deep but not to loud and the quality is spot on.I hope this helps Regards ian/555

ian/555,
How come you seem to be quoting the entire post you are replying to these days? I just think it's a little wasteful of storage/bandwidth...
Ok, I'll just get my hat...

Kevin,
I have heard several conflicting reports concerning possum links, and of course everyone at some stage, has heard about PE's problems. Things can go wrong, but I am not going to waffle on about that.
If you are interested, I am having a UNICHIP fitted to my car this week (this is the same chip that Harj has had fitted, which enabled him a 13.3 drag run on Sunday). It is a 93WRX with drager exhaust and HKS induction kit. As previously mentioned, ***** out power figures are not everything. 13.3 drag times (with alittle more practise will be in the late 12's), is nothing to be sniffed at, coming from a car with less than 300 bhp!!!
This is obviously not the be-all and end-all of performance measuring, but hey, it helps.
