After two track days I think the shoulders of my tyres have decided enough is enough. I rang Micheldever Tyres for a quote on SO2's and was told that the are not recommended, there recommendation was the RE011. Anybody have opinions of the RE011? How about Toyo Proxies, they seem to have a really cool tread pattern! (sad aren't I! ).

I've just had Toyo Proxy T1's fitted and they seem ok. They're a harder compound than the SO2's or P-zero's and as I do mainly motorway mileage that seemed a better deal - especially at £90 a corner. Dry grip they seem pretty good but wet grip I'm not so sure. I had a "play" in the wet at the weekend and they do slide - quite progressive though - more so than the original P-zeros. I'd just have rather found out where there's no kerbs (not that I hit anything - just a bit disconcerting...)

RE101's are good. I used them at the Nurburg ring for 4 days and had no problems . Excellent grip in the dry and wet.

They are hard to get hold of and are v. expensive . I paid £152 for one tyre recently.

I've recently fitted Goodyear Eagle F1s and find them very good. Tread pattern is very similar to that of the Toyo Proxies, although it's a bit more curvaceous.

They're certainly very good in the wet, and on a previous car (this is the first time I've had them on a Scooby) they lasted about twice as long as a set of PZeros.

Unfortunately, they do tend to be a bit more expensive than the Toyos (least I couldn't find them as cheaply)

Something about the SO2's makes them a problem on 16" wheels. No one has reported a problem on 17" wheels though. On 16's I found that they needed a running-in period of 1,500 miles! They are now ok, although they do not give as good feedback as Yokohama tyres. Everyone that I know who has Yokohama A520's likes them.

 

I agree, Yokos are brill! I've done over a thousand miles now on a set of A520s, and they're faultless. Fantastic grip in the dry, and very good in the wet too - when they do eventually let go you can feel how progressive they are. I got a set of 4 for £400 all in

 

I to have just fitted a set of Yokos and found them a great improvement.There is about twice the information coming through the steering wheel and the turn-in and handling are also better.Some of this maybe because i've gone from 15's to 17's but i'm sure some of the improvement is down to the tyres.

Bridgestone Potenza RE720's are good, but I've also heared that the new TOYO's stick like s**t to a blanket!

 

Had F1's fitted just before the Catalunya trip. I found them excellent in the dry on the very fast twisty stage sections we drove.

Did the Oulton track day a few months back and in the rain they excelled without letting go once.

Well tested and highly recommended

 

I've put 1.5k miles on a new set of 17 inch S0-2 Bridgestones and they are not as good as the PZeros in my opinion.
Grip is OK but feedback is rotten and the car feels "floaty" as if on softer springs. Upping the tyre pressures only makes the ride more jarring.
Lets hope for an improvement over the next few thousand miles.
