Am seriously considering a Superchips conversion on my '93 WRX - not least 'cos it should fix my "5TH GEAR ENGINE CUT-OUT" problem (now up to 32 postings, I notice!) Any experiences, anyone? The website talks of +40bhp, minimal(!) effect on economy, better throttle response etc. Also, how much should I expect to pay, and is it worth going for the full customisable version??

I'm already Ramaired and Scoobysported (fnarr)

Cheers all and sundry,
Zip

If you have a coil pack/plug problem then it may make it worse cos the ecu is not cutting the engine because it thinks it has high boost. Its just misfiring. If you have a problem then fix it befire you chip it else it may never be diagnosed.

I speak from bitter experience here (previous turbo ... Vauxhall)

I have had a superchip fitted to both a UK spec Impreza and my more recent 94 WRX RA. The chip made the UK car just bearable (only kept it for 2 months though!) and the RA much better! The same chip is used for both cars, I just had it moved from one to the other, it only takes one hour to fit, which was £25 + VAT. I've just sold the RA, so I do have a spare superchip! I won't be getting a Impreza for a while as I've just moved house:-( so would you like to buy it? I bought it in October 98. I'm sure any local superchip dealer would be happy to fit it, mine in Newcastle ( R&P Woods) was very helpful. The chip gives you more urge after the 3000 rpm mark as the turbo is allowed to produce higher boost levels, 1.1 bar on the UK car and 1.35 bar on an WRX. Just make sure that you use Super Unleaded, although you should be anyway with a WRX for max performance.

You can email me direct if you want

THE SUPERCHIP IS STILL FOR SALE!

FYI I have a superchip in my MY94 WRX and it now puts out 268 BHP and 270 lb/ft torque! (Scoobysport downpipe, back box and ramair, 18 psi boost according to Power Engineering) I always run SUL but do have the occasional detonation problem. Water injection next!

Are the chip illegal in Japan? Are ps and speed restrictiosn applied to cars in Japan voluntary or legally enforced?
