Hi Andy, why are you painting your 98 Scoob?

If it's to touch up stone chips I would go get some proper stuff from your local Subaru dealer.

Anyone happen to know which one (if any) matches? "Nissan Flame Red" looked promising, but, er, it is too bright...

Thanks,
Andy

(Apologies to IWOCers who've just read all this boring stuff.)

I do indeed use Subaru touch up paint for the types of thing you mention, but I'm currently undertaking a very sad experiment, which I was quite hoping to keep secret ;-)

I'm "colour coding" my PIAA driving lamp covers (inspired by the RB5 I s'pose). I hate the boy-racer look of these covers, but don't fancy the cost of new lights if I don't use 'em. Apparently clear covers (like the ScoobySport Cibie ones) are "very unlikely" to ever happen. So doing it with that tiny touch up paint brush is not very practical ;-)

It'll probably look crap I know :-) (I may end up getting my dealer's body shop to do it if it all goes pear-shaped, but that will no doubt be much more expensive than £4.99.)

Anyway, it turns out my best bet is to get a local body ship to mix me some paint to order (which they can do if I tell them the correct colour code).

Andy

Andy,

Problem solved!

If the paint doesn't match just buy some more and do the whole car!

Andy,

Check the grahamgoode web site for those covers, yes they are not cheap at 84 pounds
plus mounting hardware but the are pre painted(available in 3 colours) even the
STI sticker is fitted on .

EXPENSIVE,TRUE BUT NO HEADACHES OR TRIAL AND
ERROR.

GOOD LUCK

Aziz,

Are you sure that will work? Have you tried it with PIAA lights? On my STi you could fit either the stock blanking plates or the Subaru lights. You could not fit the covers over the lights. The covers GGR sell are, I believe, the stock STi covers.

Funny, I'd thought of doing the same thing to the covers on my DBM MY99. I seem to remeber that last time I was in halfords there was a poster claiming that they would create a can of any colour you needed if you could provide the paint code. They coulde do custom touch up pens as well.

That was about 4 months back, and I didn't go into it at the time, but it may be worth asking.

If anyone's interested, I have already colour coded my PIAA covers. Did the job myself, cost about £30-40 all in. Have a look at www.arnesta.freeserve.co.uk/impreza.htm and see what you think.
