Hi all,

Anyone know if it is worth fitting Mintex pads all round (on a UK MY98)? I suspect the standard pads are acceptable on the rears (as they do so little work)?

Thanks,
Andy

If you change the front pads and not the rear to the same compound/make, you are in effect altering the braking bias of the car.

I would suggest that if you change one, you change both and Mintex is good kit generally.

Not totally relevant but... I have Brembo front discs callipers pads, standard rears. last track at Donington the fronts were fine, but it chewed the rears completely in three sessions (pads were less than a thousand miles from new!) I have now got a set of Mintex rears for track days!

'Not relevant', that sounds like a perfect example to me.

I have the Mintex pads all round on my car. At Knockhill recently, cars with standard pads on the rear were coming in with them smoking. Given that the Mintex ones are less expensive than the standard Subaru parts for the rears, then I would say go for it.

I just had mine serviced today, and the rears are only 40% worn after 11.5k miles, with the fronts 50% worn. Not bad considering that in my previous car the fronts only lasted 7.5k miles. OK the discs are "lipped", but you would expect this using a harder pad and standard discs.

I'll probably upgrade the discs, pads fluid and hoses when they are due for replacement (it will give me some time to save for them!).

Which grade / compound of Mintex pads are you referring to 1144 or 1155 or 1166

I've got the 1155 in mine, they do squeal a bit when cold but otherwise ok, didn't produce as much brake dust as the front Brembos or as much as the previous standard rears!
